Bold Beginning Resource Fairs | Springfield | 2017
Bold Beginning is a pilot and community engagement program created by the Ohio Department of Education. Four resource fairs were held January 26, February 9, February 23, and March 9, 2017 in Sprinfield. Miami Valley Child Development Centers, Inc.—a nonprofit entity with Head Start services in Butler, Clark, Greene, Madison and Montgomery counties—served as grant administrator. Springfield was targeted as it is shown to have the greatest need. Research data on child outcomes included infant mortality, kindergarten readiness, and Third Grade Reading Guarantee Scores.
The goal of Bold Beginning is to help at-risk children attain a healthy and prepared entrance for learning in school. Qualifying parents affiliated with MVCDC, YMCA, Springfield City Schools, and local partners were encouraged to take advantage of free resources at each event. Previous giveaways included books, blankets, backpacks, smoke detectors, CO2 detectors, gift baskets, and household gift cards. Traffic exceeded 100 parents during each event. For more information on Bold Beginning or Head Start program enrollment, call 937.226.5664.
