Children 6 weeks to 3

Early Head Start is for children between 6 weeks and age 3. Our teachers are eager to help your child meet important developmental milestones from talking to sitting up, crawling, walking and going to the potty. You can choose a program that is part-day (3 1/2 hours), a school-day (6.5 hours) or full-day (up to 10 hours).

Families receiving SNAP benefits or who earn 100% or less of the Federal Poverty Level are eligible to enroll. Generally, a mother of 2 must have an annual income under $26,650. If you’re a foster parent or are part of kinship care, you also qualify, as do families who are homeless.

Once you qualify for Early Head Start, you will remain eligible until your child turns 3, even if your income increases.

By joining Early Head Start, you’ll also have a Family Support Specialist who can help you find resources in the community to support your family. They’ll help you and your child set goals to achieve your hopes and dreams.

We have 40+ locations in Montgomery, Clark and Madison counties, including sites operated by MVCDC and by school districts and in-home family child care providers.

In-home learning

Not all parents and caregivers want to send their young child to an early learning center or put them in child care. We respect your choice!

If that’s your decision, you can enroll in our home-based program. We’ll connect you with one of our compassionate and knowledgeable Home Visitors or Family Support Specialists who will come to your home every week at a time that’s convenient for you. They’ll bring FREE early learning activities for you and your child to do together. They can also connect you to resources — from health insurance to housing assistance to food banks. And your Home Visitor or Family Support Specialist will answer your questions about everything from breastfeeding to helping your baby get into a sleep routine.

Finally, you’ll have the option of getting together every month with other families receiving home visiting services.

Families receiving SNAP benefits or who earn 100% or less of the Federal Poverty Level are eligible to enroll. Generally, a mother of 2 must have an annual income under $26,650. If you’re a foster parent or are part of kinship care, you also qualify, as do families who are homeless.

Once you are assigned a Home Visitor or Family Support Specialist, you can continue receiving services until your child turns 3, even if your income increases.
